Borderline personality disorder (BPD) (otherwise known as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder) which emerges from an interaction between genetic and environmental factors, is a disorder which affects mood, emotional responses and interpersonal relationships. Those with BPD generally experience emotional dysregulation, which involves intense mood changes, which are not easily regulated, disturbed patterns of perception, impulsive behaviour which often includes self-harming behaviour and unstable relationships.
Most people notice symptoms of borderline personality disorder in adolescence and continue to suffer from it in adulthood.

As is the case with most medical conditions, there is no one clear factor contributing to developing BPD. There may be a number of factors involved, and these factors will interact. Here are a few possible causes:
Problems with neurotransmitters in the brain, which causes issues with signal transmission between brain cells
Symptoms of BPD can range from mild to severe. The drive to engage in unpredictable, impulsive behaviours and the clouded perception of self may pose a higher risk of:
“From start to finish, it taught me so much about myself.”
“Thank you for challenging me when I needed it.”
“I can’t believe how much progress I’ve made in a short time.”
“After many years of therapy, you are the first person who gets me.”
Unfortunately, there is still a lot of stigma when it comes to the topic of mental health and wellness, more so when it comes to personality disorders. This only makes it more difficult for people to get expert help and start feeling better.
