Autism Assessments Launching February 2026

Looking for an Autism Assessment?

Autism can shape so much in your life – from how you experience the world and communicate with others, to how you navigate everyday situations and respond to your surroundings.

Living with undiagnosed autism can feel exhausting at any age. For children and adolescents, the challenges of growing up are even harder to navigate, especially at school. Even as an adult, many spend years masking and adapting to others’ expectations, often feeling misunderstood without knowing precisely why.

At Dr Jo Gee Psychological Therapies, we offer autism (ASD) assessments for adults, children and adolescents. We also provide access to any ongoing support you may be interested in, such as therapeutic care and guidance, all delivered by our experienced, multidisciplinary team.

We aim to offer assessments within a month of initial contact, so you’re not left waiting for answers and can get the support you or your child need.

What Is Autism?

LeftFlower
Do you find social situations feel confusing or draining?
Are certain environments or sudden changes in routine overwhelming?
Have you always felt different from others but never quite understood why…?

For many people, these experiences aren’t about personality or intelligence. They can be signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people experience the world around them and make sense of social situations.

If you are autistic, you might experience:
  • Difficulty understanding social cues or unspoken rules
  • Exhaustion from social interactions and masking
  • Sensory sensitivities to noise, light, touch or textures
  • A strong need for routine or predictability
  • Distress when plans change suddenly and unexpectedly
  • Intense interests or deep focus on specific topics
  • Difficulty expressing needs or emotions
  • Feeling misunderstood or overwhelmed in some everyday situations

Who Are Autism Assessments For?

Our assessments may be helpful if:

  • You’re an adult who has always felt different or struggled socially
  • You suspect autism might be why you feel anxious or become easily overwhelmed and burnt out
  • You’re a parent concerned about your child’s communication skills, behaviour or sensory sensitivities
  • Your child is struggling socially or emotionally at home and/or school
  • You want clarity before exploring supoprt, therapy or adjustments at school/work

We assess both straightforward and more complex presentations of autism, including where ASD may overlap with other difficulties, such as ADHD.

If you’re interested in being assessed for both ASD and ADHD at the same time, look into our ASD and ADHD Combined Assessment.

Our Autism Assessment Process

We aim to make the assessment process as clear, supportive and straightforward as possible.

We don’t rush through assessments or just tick a few boxes. We take time to understand your individual experiences in depth, using recognised diagnostic criteria and best-practice guidance.

Once you contact us, the process includes:

  • An initial consultation to discuss any concerns you might have, your suitability and the next steps of the process
  • Complete a series of pre-assessment questionnaires to give us all the background information we require
  • A comprehensive clinical assessment using recognised diagnostic criteria
  • A clear diagnostic outcome and report to let you know the result of the assessment
  • Personalised recommendations for what to do next, regardless of diagnosis

Why Choose Us for Your Assessment?

With increasing awareness of what autism really is, more people are seeking assessments, often facing long waitlists and uncertainty about what support is available. That’s why we do things differently, giving you the answers and support you need as soon as possible.

  • Assessments within a month: We aim to offer an assessment and report within a month of initial contact, avoiding lengthy waitlists wherever possible.
  • Comprehensive care under one roof: Assessment, therapy and ongoing support are all available within one integrated service.
  • Experienced, multidisciplinary team: Our clinicians are highly trained and work collaboratively to ensure safe, evidence-based support with continuity of care.
  • Support beyond diagnosis: We focus on understanding the whole person, rather than just meeting the diagnostic criteria. This means that regardless of the result, we will ensure you are offered the support you need after our assessment.

What Happens After an Assessment?

If Autism is Diagnosed:

We offer a joined-up approach to care with a range of options. These include:

  • Neurodivergent-informed therapy, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Support for emotional wellbeing and identity
  • Guidance around reasonable adjustments at work or school
  • Ongoing psychiatric and therapeutic support

You don’t need to seek out different providers – assessment, support and therapy can all be accessed within the same experienced team at Dr Jo Gee Psychological Therapies.

If Autism Is Not Diagnosed:

Just because you don’t receive a diagnosis doesn’t mean your difficulties aren’t valid. Instead, we’ll continue to work with you to provide:

  • A clear explanation of the assessment outcome
  • Education and guidance to understand yourself better
  • Therapeutic support options, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Thoughtful signposting and recommendations for you to receive the support you need

Whatever the outcome, we don’t leave you without direction or support.

What Causes Autism?

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition linked to differences in how the brain processes information and responds to both sensory and social input.

These differences can shape how autistic people experience everyday situations and interact with the world around them. Autism is not caused by upbringing or parenting, and it’s certainly not something that needs to be “fixed.”

As it’s a spectrum, autism presentations can vary widely, and many people (particularly girls and adults) are diagnosed later in life after years of masking and adapting to fit others’ expectations.

Autism Assessment Fees

Why Does an Autism Assessment Matter?

Even if you’ve lived your whole life so far without an ASD diagnosis, an assessment can still make a huge difference. An autism assessment helps people make sense of the lifelong difficulties they’ve been living with for years, so they can finally understand themselves better.

An autism assessment can help in several important ways:

Understanding Yourself

Being diagnosed as a child can help understand how and why they experience the world in the way they do. However, there are many adults who reach later life without an autism diagnosis, spending years masking or feeling out of place. An assessment as an adult can help explain these lifelong experiences and help you to finally accept yourself as you are.

Work

Since autism can affect how you communicate, as well as your sensory tolerance and energy levels, it can have a huge impact at work. An assessment can help you discover the support you need and reasonable adjustments available to make working life more manageable.

School and Education

For children and young people, autism can make certain aspects of school life particularly challenging. That’s why an assessment is recommended, so schools can better understand your child’s needs and provide appropriate support to improve their confidence and wellbeing.

Relationships

Relationships are grounded in communication, emotions and social interaction, which is why some relationships can be challenging for an autistic person at times. Understanding precisely how ASD shapes your communication and emotional processing can help with misunderstandings and maintaining healthier relationships.

Accessing the Right Support

Whatever the outcome, an assessment can guide your next steps, from therapeutic support to practical strategies that improve your day-to-day life. Even when autism is not diagnosed, assessments often provide valuable guidance and direction to improve your life.

For those with an ASD diagnosis, assessments inform the various support options available. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach at Dr Jo Gee Psychological Therapies; treatment is discussed carefully and collaboratively, and all support is tailored to you as an individual.
